Why delete your social media accounts? Outsmart it!

Outsmarting your use of social media can create a great sense of well-being.

Happy New Year to you all. It’s that time of the year, where we all make so many resolutions and hopefully one of them will be to outsmart your social media usage. We may all have our reasons for deciding on deleting our social media accounts. No judgments here… it’s New Year and that means many might reconsider going back. Now, how can you outsmart your social media usage, so it doesn’t outsmart you? Here’re a few tips to use and hope it makes a difference.

  1. Active User. Be an active social media user. Have you considered a time when you may have been scrolling down your Timeline looking at what others have been posting, checking others lifestyle and not engaging? Oh that must surely have been painful to watch. This may even increase feelings of envy and depression. Try this actually. Post your own content on your social media accounts. Conversely, commenting on posts, sharing articles and creating posts constitute active social media use. Also, engage on what others have posted. Being active users creates a sense of social support and community involvement.
  2. Meaningful Social Engagements. Focus more on what matters. What makes you smile when you are on social media? Personally, I love reading comments to my posts, as well as receiving direct messages. I enjoy reading meaningful engagements and reply to all my comments or messages with a personal touch. Direct messaging and personalized comments can provide a deeper level of engagement. It is much better to comment on a post than simply just pressing on the Like button as it could improve the mood of the author of the post.
  3. Professional Social Usage. You can use social media for professional purposes. Some who may have lost their jobs can use social media as a social support to boost up their mood for a different career adventure. Social networking sites can result to information benefits, where you can learn more about career, as well your professional development. How to network on professional networking sites like LinkedIn may be challenging but there is always a first in everything; right? Learn who are your connections on LinkedIn. Get to celebrate your connections success and birthday. I call this my icebreaker, now you can talk business and network successfully.
